Awards for Bridging Cultures
Future of the Awards
In 2007 the Baring Foundation commissioned the Institute of Community Cohesion to set up and run for three years awards for intercultural dialogue taking place at the grassroots level. These became know as the Awards for Bridging Cultures and both organisations have been pleased and impressed by the wealth of work that the awards process has uncovered and celebrated since then. 514 organisations have applied; 441 of which from voluntary organisations, and 73 public/private. Along with £150,000 in funding given to the award recipients, annual learning days have helped develop practice and raise the profile of intercultural dialogue.
Although we feel that the Awards have achieved their purpose in showcasing this work and so will not be running them again, the Baring Foundation will be running a competition this year (2011) seeking ideas for how the learning that resulted from the awards can best be utilised. Details will be on the Baring Foundation website when the competition is announced.
